Dayle & Aaron's Story:
When I signed up to the inaugural ride in 2018, I had no idea what she was getting myself into and how eye opening it would be. Before travelling over to Cambodia, I had no idea about the Khmer Rouge Genocide and the substantial poverty it caused. Learning about how recently this Genocide happened and talking to the locals who all have had direct impacts in their families caused by the Khmer Rouge, was shocking to say the least. Completing the bike ride was the hardest thing I have ever done but I know that it wouldn’t be anywhere close to the hardest thing any of the people I was privileged to meet during my time there in 2018.
However, despite the everyday hardships these people go through, every person I met greeted me with a genuine smile, which inspired and pushed me throughout the ride. I can’t wait to get back there and experience this all with my partner Aaron.
Supporting Dayle, I made my first overseas trip, and met her at Feeding Dreams Cambodia at the finish line. Growing up in country Tasmania, and living in Melbourne for the last five years, nothing could have prepared me for seeing the extreme poverty in Cambodia. My first night there, I heard one of the students of the Dreams Training Centre’s, stories, hearing what he had gone through in his young life, and moved me to tears; and everyone we met had a similar story of their own! The people of Cambodia were so friendly and welcoming, and I knew immediately that I wanted to help in whatever way possible.
We met Sreyrath at Feeding Dreams Cambodia, a 10 year old girl, living in the slums 2.5km away from the school, who needed our help. Sponsoring Sreyrath was a no brainer, and so was coming back to participate in the 2020 Bike Ride, me for the first time, and Dayle for the second.
Please help us raise much needed funds for this amazing school.
